Show your friends how much you love them this Valentine’s Day

At Cobbles and Clay, we love to see our visitors enjoying each other’s company. Whether it’s over a morning cup of coffee or a late afternoon glass of wine, it’s great to see friends or couples spending quality time together in the comfort of our café and pottery painting studio on Haworth’s Main Street. Valentine’s Day is a special day dedicated to sharing the love and those who are currently single shouldn’t have to miss out on all the fun! Bring your group of friends to our café and paint each other something special to remind them that they are loved. Our heart shaped plaques are perfect for writing a short phrase about what you like most about your best friend, and it’s something they can keep forever to remind them of your special day together. We’re based right in the heart of Bronte Country, which is a great location for sharing your love life woes since the famous literary sisters knew a thing or two about heart-ache! If you do want to visit with your loved one, there’s also something strangely romantic and atmospheric about our gorgeous little industrial village with cobbled streets and historical buildings. Our Yorkshire sharing board is the ideal lunch to pick at whilst you’ve got your creative hats on, and we’ll even serve it up with little heart shaped dishes! So pop in and share the love this Valentine’s...

Kick off your New Year’s Resolutions at Cobbles

Kick off your New Year’s Resolutions at Cobbles

As we step into a shiny New Year, many of us will be following the old tradition of making a resolution to give us a focus and ultimately help us feel like, better-rounded people! When it comes to resolutions we find that keeping it simple is the key to success so thought we’d try making things a bit easier for all of our lovely customers by suggesting a few ideas: Learn a new skill – Not just a good way to pick up a new talent, but it would also open the door to meeting new people. Whether you’re feeling creative, musical or adventurous to try new things, there’ll certainly something going on in our local area of Haworth to get you inspired. Jill completed a course with Grand Illusions Vintage Paint last year to learn how to refurbish pieces of furniture, and if you want to do something similar please get in touch as we are thinking of running a course in the café. We are also running an adult contemporary stitching group starting on 14th January and sewing for fun workshops with Diane from Wave of Nostalgia starting on 9th February, more information about these classes can be found on our Special Events page. For other creative new skills, whether it’s Yoga or Bollywood dancing, check out what our friends at Kala Sangam have to offer for unique classes and events, you might find your calling! #DryJanuary – You may have spotted the advert on television at the moment promoting #DryJanuary, a great way to give your body a well-deserved break after getting into the festive spirit....

Cobbles & Clay’s first anniversary in our new larger Haworth Main Street cafe!

Cobbles & Clay’s first anniversary in our new larger Haworth Main Street cafe!

This Saturday (24 October 2015) is the first anniversary of the opening of the bigger and better Cobbles & Clay cafe and pottery painting studio in our new larger premises at 70-72 Haworth Main Street. We can’t believe it’s been a whole year since the new place opened and have been so busy with sell out events, a packed out cafe and lots of other new ventures that we haven’t had time to plan a proper celebration! Since it nicely co-incides with the launch of our sister gift shop Daisy Days’ new website www.daisy-days.co.uk, we’re offering customers 10% off everything in store at Daisy Days all day on Saturday. For those of you who don’t know our back story, the original Cobbles & Clay was opened by our founder Jill in its original smaller home lower down Main Street, next door to Daisy Days, back in 2006. It was an instant hit with locals and visitors alike (much to Jill’s surprise her lentil soup quickly became famous!) because it offered something completely different. Jill says: “It had previously been a ‘greasy spoon’ style place and I wanted to do something really different with it by making it into a pottery painting studio and cafe serving the kind of wholesome but tasty food I’d want to eat if I took my children there. At the time, nowhere in the village served anything like hummus so it was a big risk. But Haworth seemed ready for it. “Seven years later in 2013, the kitchen in the original café had become too small to meet demand for our range of ‘no gunk,...
Superfood inspiration from the marvellous Jamie Oliver comes to Cobbles and Clay!

Superfood inspiration from the marvellous Jamie Oliver comes to Cobbles and Clay!

Since day one at Cobbles and Clay, Jill has always loved the simple and tasty recipes from Jamie Oliver’s cookbook. Ensuring that healthy eating is all about tasty flavours and an overall enjoyable experience is the key message in Jamie’s book, and also the key message in our café. It seems only right that we spread the word even further by featuring two of Jamie’s dishes in our café each week on our specials! To kick off the new tradition, this week we will be serving a soup made with the king of all superfoods – kale! The Super Green Soup has a beautiful concoction of flavours, from smoky chorizo to fresh herbs, and is full of polyphenols and counts as two of your five a day! If the soup doesn’t tickle your tastebuds, the delicious squash daal will certainly do the job! Jam packed full of iron and energy, this spicy dish is the perfect pick-me-up if you’re feeling a little tired and sluggish. We’ll be posting about our special dishes each week on our Facebook and Twitter page, and also a tempting picture on Instagram so make sure you’re following...

Cobbles & Clay hosts a children’s book launch!

It’s all ‘go go go’ here at Cobbles & Clay this weekend! With the Women@Work event on Thursday evening, the ever popular Snake Davis gig on Friday night and the wonderful Hilary Roper-Newman will be launching her new children’s book here on Saturday night (12 September 2015)! Being a local artist, teacher, writer and author, Hilary is a good friend of Cobbles & Clay and we are delighted that she has chosen to launch her new children’s book ‘Sashka the Snow Princess’ in the friendly atmosphere of our café. All her books are beautifully illustrated so that their captivating stories can come alive for each and every child who enjoys them. ‘Sashka the Snow Princess’, the book Hilary is launching in our café, is an enchanting story which both boys and girls will enjoy whilst letting their imagination skills run wild. We can’t wait to hear a little snippet of the story! The book launch will start at 7pm for pre-booked guests who have been invited. The ticket price includes food. If you are really interested in hearing from Hilary herself and would like to make a last minute booking, please call the café to find out whether there are any places available before 12pm on the...
The best time to book your Christmas party? September, of course!

The best time to book your Christmas party? September, of course!

We know that the summer is still (supposedly) in full swing but here at Cobbles & Clay in Haworth we’re already thinking about the festive season after taking our first Christmas party booking for a group of 20 colleagues. The lead up to Christmas is always such a busy time and booking the perfect work or family celebration can be stressful as venues and diaries start to fill up, so thinking ahead pays off! If you are responsible for organising your team Christmas bash and want to do something a little different to the usual office dinner party this year, we can come up with a package to suit any party size from 4-50 people to include food & drink and/or pottery painting. Have some festive fun painting pottery One way to make your Christmas party extra special is to do a creative group activity which will create a talking point and make it a memorable event. We’re one of the only venues in the region where you can paint pottery while you eat and drink, giving your guests the opportunity to get creative. They may want to choose something to paint that they can give as a personal Christmas gift or a memento for themselves. Festive food to suit everyone The usual Christmas dinner menus can get a bit boring – especially if it’s your third or fourth of the festive season! We have a wide variety of options for those with different dietary requirements including vegan and gluten free dishes. We’ll come up with a package to suit your budget and requirements – and before you ask,...
DIY activity idea for the summer holidays

DIY activity idea for the summer holidays

When the kids break up for the summer holidays, we know how expensive it can be to fill their days with activities whilst also cracking on with things around the house that need doing. So we’ve come up with a perfect solution for both you and the children! If you’re wanting to redecorate your bathroom or kitchen, why not come to our café one afternoon and paint your own tiles?! The kids will love being a part of the redecorating process and you’ll get your very own bespoke designs to make that area extra special. To give you an idea of what it could look like, we’ve painted the tiles in our café sink area – and they look great if we do say so ourselves! We loved making our tiles as colourful as possible, but if you want to stick to a stricter colour scheme you can pick out a few paints for the children to use. (we know how tempting it can be to use every colour under the sun!) If you’re interested in painting your own tiles, pop in and speak to Jill to pick her brains for...
