A Weekend of Wool –  £140 per participant

Create watercolours in wool.

This workshop will be weekend filled with wool, and wonderful ways of working with beautiful wool fibres. It will be a creative and exciting opportunity to wet felt wool, card wool, spin wool, needle felt wool and machine embroider into wool!

You will have the opportunity to create a beautiful piece of artwork inspired by nature using wet felting, needle felting, carding, spinning, and free-motion machine embroidery techniques. If you enjoy working with colour and texture or want to learn more about decorative textile techniques you will love this workshop. You will be working with high quality dyed Merino wool and a range of exciting wool and plant fibres.

During the workshop you will create a flat piece of felt made by layering wool fibers and using the simple process of wet felting to manipulate and matt the fibres together using soapy water and a bit of elbow grease!

To allow you to have lots of help and support the group will be split into two. In these groups you will work with Melanie and Linda learning to spin your own yarns using a traditional drop spindle, draw with a sewing machine using machine embroidery and needle felting. Your hand spun yarns and other fibres will be needle felted onto your piece of felt to add extra texture and detail. Machine embroidery will be used to define areas and draw detail onto your artwork.

Refreshments, lunch and cake will be provided by the fabulous Cobbles and Clay Cafe. The weekend will be informative, creative, experimental and relaxing. We know you’ll leave feeling inspired and a little bit spoilt!
